Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before and are interested in finding a Huntsville dentist, you can follow these directions to find us. Starting from the Hampton Cove Middle School, there are two great routes to our office:
- Get onto Old Highway 431, then turn right onto US 431. Keep going for 7.3 miles, around a few bends. Keep going when the highway becomes Governors Dr for a few more bends, then turn left at Longwood Dr where the road widens. Turn left onto California St, then turn slightly left onto Whitesburg Dr. Turn right onto Drake Ave and keep going for just over 2 miles. Watch for us coming up on your left after the Huntsville Aquatics Center, at 2227 Drake Ave SW STE 10B.
- Another route you could take starts off on Old Highway 431 too, but you’ll continue straight onto Sutton Rd, which then becomes Cecil Ashburn Dr. Enjoy the view of the forest as you wind around Blevins Gap. You’ll reach civilization again when Cecil Ashburn Dr becomes Four Miles Post Rd, then turn right onto Whitesburg Rd. Very soon, turn right onto Martin Rd, then right again onto Memorial Pkwy. Take the Drake Ave exit and turn left. Now you’ll finish off the same way as the first route. If you reach another bend in Drake Ave, you went too far!
Local History
Big Cove, nestled between Monte Sano and Keel mountains near Huntsville, has a rich history dating back to 1807. Its name, a simple reflection of the area’s geographic features, was coined by John Clan Grayson, the area’s first permanent white settler. This picturesque community lies at the base of Green, Huntsville, and Monte Sano mountains and borders Owens Cross Roads to the south, with most of the community falling under its zip code. To the north, the “upper end” of Big Cove is recognized as part of the Brownsboro, Alabama, zip code and has been largely incorporated into the city limits of Huntsville.
Originally a robust farming community, Big Cove has seen significant transformations over the years. The lands that once thrived with soybeans, corn, and cotton as major cash crops have gradually transitioned. Family-owned farms have given way to residential subdivisions, reflecting a shift from agricultural roots to a burgeoning residential area, indicative of the growth and change that continues to shape its landscape and community.

This is a sprawling 1086-acre sanctuary located just minutes from the bustling residential and commercial areas of South Huntsville. The preserve is divided into two main sections, bisected by Cecil Ashburn Drive. To the south, you can explore around 8 miles of serene woodland hiking trails from the main Blevins Gap Trailhead, located in the larger 727-acre section.
This area is renowned as Huntsville’s premier vantage point for breathtaking valley vistas. On the northern side, accessible via the Fanning Trailhead behind Southeast Church of the Nazarene, the 267-acre tract features a challenging rocky terrain with seasonal waterfalls and approximately 4.5 miles of trails. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful stroll or an adventurous hike, Blevins Gap Nature Preserve provides an ideal escape into nature, with trails open from dawn to dusk daily at no charge.
